Today is the Diada de Sant Jordi festival here in Barcelona, commemorating St. George, patron saint of Catalonia. To celebrate, the whole city turns into one giant book fair(!) There are also dragons found throughout the city, invoking a legend. And flowers, particularly red roses, bloom around every street corner.
I’m about to go for a long walk with Warren and friends to take in the atmosphere, but first —
Here’s what I’d love to share with you today:
The first Jenna’s Board meeting is currently being scheduled, and I’m so excited that we’re doing this together. If you would like to run your challenge, company, idea, or conundrum past a group of wonderful wise people, who I also turn to for guidance on a regular basis, reply and/or seek more info here. We’ve set this up to be a free public service for all involved.
This media quagmire around all the elections this year, particularly in the US, is only going to get much, much worse.
Americans especially: I would like to seriously suggest that you sign up for a mail-in ballot right now, because I’d like to invite you to travel to Barcelona at around the same time in November.
If there are enough of you who would do this, I would take this as an opportunity to plan a truly incredible travel experience for you similar to what you’ll all enjoy at the future guesthouse hotel brand that I’m starting. Please note that I’m also now officially an accredited transformational travel experience designer, so I am actually trained in making this awesome. We could even rent a house along the Costa Brava…
I recognize that this all sounds very… The Decameron by Giovanni Bocaccio, but really I mean it.
Enough replies here and I’ll set up an incredible retreat for you.
Vote, and then sit on a beach with me to process this era with cool new friends. For comfort and self care in the unexpected theme of this note: This is random, truly and completely random, but I recently got a Bruder’s eye mask on the suggestion of a friend. It’s like a little spa for your eyes and I couldn’t recommend it more for one of your calm moments coming up.
Love,
Jenna
Recent reviews of The Hours Before Dusk by Jenna Matecki:
“I absolutely love these stories and poems. They are captivating and perfect just to flip open pick a location and transport to that city. Great to read cover to cover or just one or two entries at a time. Illustrations are absolutely gorgeous and add to each and every story. So definitely be a great conversation piece.” - Hildegard on Amazon
“One of the things I love most about Matecki's book is that I can pick it up at any time and disappear into one of her stories of adventure, connection and self-reflection. I read it over the course of a year, whenever I needed to take a break from the world, always picking up right where I left off. I plan to read it again in the same way. Her writing is as warm, vibrant and colorful as the illustrations; it's a beautiful book inside and out.” - Jeff on Goodreads
”You can feel the author's soul in this book. You will understand different cultures in a wonderful book” - Alfredo on Amazon
