To every man who mentored me

This week and today I'm inspired by the men in my life

On days like today, International Women’s Day, I’m reminded of all the amazing men in my life.

I think of my father who raised my sister and me the way that he did.

I think of capture the flag and climbing trees with my cousins, mostly guys.

I think of my partners and their love, encouragement, how they talked about me.

I think of my guy friends who called me out when I was playing too small, who asked me for advice.

I think of my work mentors and colleagues, who trained me and continually put me on the spot and asked me what I thought in high-stakes moments where it mattered.

I am the product of all the people who have ever loved me. But I am also, especially on days like today, the direct consequence of all the men in my life who are feminists.
